My people perish because we don’t know the God of the Bible, the Christ of the New Testament, and the way of Salvation. However, I would be guilty of a far greater crime if I did not help my people understand why it is we seem to perish. There are so many areas that need to be addressed within our community, unfortunately, I don’t have time to deal with them all right this moment. My people still love God, but we are perishing because we don’t’ understand what he requires of us. Those who still read the Bible lack understanding of its content because we have forsaken to assemble ourselves collectively and find guidance through the preaching of the word. Sunday school and Bible study have become increasingly irrelevant in our fast-paced lives. My people are perishing because we have forsaken Christian Education. Hosea warns that those who don’t align themselves with the law of God will perish. The Psalms promise to prosper the people who align their ways with the law of God. We have neglected the very thing that they clung to, the Bible. The progress that was made by our grandparents and great-grandparents is being thwarted due to a number of reasons. From where I sit we seem to be headed in the wrong direction. We have made the least amount of progress in the past 20 years collectively than we made during the Civil Rights era. African Americans have long struggled to make progress since landing in the United States via the middle passage. The only way we can understand the will of God is by seeking to understand the Word of God. The only way that they can understand where they got it wrong is by understanding the will of God. The children of Israel will die if they do not acknowledge their transgressions against God. The warning is clear when placed in the context of the rest of the Chapter. Again, in chapter 4 Hosea says, “a people without understanding shall come to ruin”. My people perish because we want success, but we don’t want to submit to God. My people perish because we have substituted the biblical understanding necessary for survival with conspiracy theories, and ideology constructed by men who reject the Bible. Who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,Ģ but his delight is in the law of the Lord,Īnd on his law he meditates day and night. God’s word and God’s way is the path to progress. The knowledge that prevents people from perishing and promotes prosperity is found in the Bible. It is a lack of knowledge that will cause them to perish. Although he is not pleased with their path he takes time to discern why it is that the children are on the wrong path. God looks down from his throne in Heaven and sees the path that has his people headed towards perishing not progress. God sends a warning through Hosea about the punishment that is coming to them if they fail to turn from their idolatry and rebellion. Hosea 4:6 is just one verse in a book about the Lord’s warning to a rebellious people. However, I think it is profitable that those looking for progress and prosperity understand what true knowledge is. I agree wholeheartedly that a lack of knowledge does hinder our progress. This saying is often used as an explanation for the lack of progress for a particular people. What is often missed in the saying is the reality of perishing and the source of true knowledge. It is a statement made in Hosea 4:6 about the deadly direction of the children of Israel. It is a true statement, but it is often misunderstood. The saying is familiar, “my people perish for lack of knowledge”. My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge
